Hello friends!! It’s been a while hasn’t it? I took a break from the blog over the holidays to travel, focus on family and re-energize for the new year. With that said I have an announcement…
I’m officially starting my first series on the blog #SLAYYOURDAY! YAY!!!!!
#SLAYYOURDAY is all about how to be the most and get the most. I truly believe that every day is a new opportunity to grow and change as long as we are willing. So I want this series to offer my advice as well as follow me along on my journey to slaying my day!
But before I begin this post, let me tell you, a month ago I was NOT a morning person. In fact, my whole life I’ve always been a night owl. The only times I would willingly (and rarely) get out of bed before the sun was back in high school for early morning seminary. Flash forward to now.. I’m in my second year of college and it’s even harder to get out of bed before 10 am. But recently, I’ve had to pick up morning shifts at my day job and wanted to take better control over my life. There’s something about getting up earlier that feels empowering (probably the fact that you will have more hours in your day to get sh*t done). So some changes were made to help me become a morning person & I wanted to share them with you…
1) SET YOUR CLOTHES OUT THE NIGHT BEFORE
OK. Let’s be real. We don’t always have time to lay out our clothes before we go to bed every night. And it sounds like something our mom made us do as a kid. Most times, I get straight out of the shower, put on my pj’s, flop onto my bed and start watching The Office. But, I before I doze off to sleep, I try to think about what I wanna wear the next day. What should I wear? What will I be doing? Where will I be going? I sort of plan my outfit in my head & it saves me a ton of time (& thinking) in the morning.
2) PLAN FOR AN EASY, FULL BREAKFAST YOU ACTUALLY WANT TO EAT
I loooove me some breakfast food and it makes it waayy easier to get up if I know I got something good to eat in the morning!
For something a little easier I like to try these recipes:
- Yummy Green Smoothie
- Overnight Oats
On days where I have more time:
- Egg whites, Bacon, Spinach
- Avocado Toast W/ Scrambled Eggs
- Chocolate Chip Protein Pancakes (this one’s my fave! just add your own chocolate)
3) PUT THE PHONE DOWN EARLY
You guys I can’t stress this one enough!! Doing THIS as soon as I climb into bed has made a huge difference in my routine and my sleep! And I don’t mean put down your phone and open up your laptop… but instead, read a book, listen to a podcast – just do something to meditate, unwind and disconnect. I’m really starting to make this a healthy habit considering how much screen time I’ve been giving myself lately (hint: TOO DANG MUCH).
4) CANCEL THE SNOOZE BUTTON
Too many times I’ve woke up to my alarm and thought “okay just 5 more minutes” as a hit the snooze button. Well 5 would then turn into 10 and next think you know, you’re late for work!!! This year I’m turning off all snooze buttons and just setting multiple alarms on my phone so that I’m forced to wake up!
5) WHAT’S YOUR WHY’S?
The reason we do anything in life is because we have a goal, a motive. We need to figure out what our purpose of life is and bring it into action! I’m challenging myself to do daily affirmations after my morning scripture study to get me in the right mindset for the day. You should try it too!
How Becoming An Early Riser Changed My Life:
Don’t get me wrong, I love sleep as much as you do- maybe even more! But with starting the day early,on the right note.I’m not saying you gotta have it all figured out to slay your day, but it starts with the simple, little habits.
If you SLAYED YOUR DAY or are creating other healthy habits in your life, let me know in the comments! Support from others can be our greatest strength! Here’s to a great week 😘🥂✨💃🏻
